Several artists have showcased their talent through their murals, all of their art unique and transformative in their own way. Although all pieces incredible, a clear standout is “Watering the garden” by José Fernández Ríos.
Who is the brilliant artist behind “Watering the garden”? Jose Fernández Ríos is to thank for the inspirational piece, but who actually is he? The Spanish painter and sculptor was born on 24 th of April 1962 and has many of his artworks displayed all over Spain, such as his collection of sculptures in Jaén called ”pavos". The mural, located on Avenida Andalucía, is of a realistic portrait of a young girl watering a tree in an imaginary garden. But it has a much greater meaning than just a child with a green thumb, the mural is a part of a larger project that began in 2012. The project created with the idea of turning Estepona into an open-air museum through urban art.
The first mural was unveiled in September of that year, the number of murals has significantly gone up over the years, along with the creativity and artistic flair loved by the people of Estepona and its visitors. Jose Fernández Ríos had also created another mural in Estepona, called “Día de Pesca” which was the previous record holder for the largest mural in Spain! The mural spans over 6 building facades and pictures a giant fish.
